Named after the Ossipee Indians, Ossipeeis made up of several smaller villages, Center Ossipee, West Ossipee, Ossipee Corner, Granite and Water Village to name just a few.
Ossipee is the county seat of Carroll County and holds the County Registry, Courthouse, Jail and the county nursing home now being replace with a new building.
Ossipee sits on the shores of Ossipee Lake, which brings many visitors to the area to enjoy the cool clear water and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
Ossipee has on its list of notable features one of the lost ski areas, Mt Whittier was an unusual ski mountain as its tramway crossed over Rte 16 the major north south highway.
The first snowmobile was built in Ossipee and every year there is a celebration of that historic event. Ossipee is also home to a unique volcanic dike ring and Big Dan Hole pond which is thought to be a bottomless pond being in the bowl of the extinct volcano.
