Yes, the town was named after the sandwich sort of.

Chartered in 1763 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, the land was considered so inaccessible that the grant was enlarged, making Sandwich one of the largest towns in the state. It was named in honor of John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, said to be the inventor of the sandwich.

93.5 square miles, the largest of the Carroll County towns.

Every Fall this quiet town with its picturesque downtown and village green comes alive during Columbus Day weekend when the Sandwich Fair takes center stage. Started for all the local farmers to show their harvest and visit with friends, the fair has grown from a one day event to a total of 3 and half days. This years’ fair dates are Oct 8-10, 2011

The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen began in Sandwich as "Sandwich Home Industries" in 1920, known today for high quality New Hampshire made items ranging from glass ornamental items to solid wood furniture and clothing.
