Incorporated as Wakefield in 1774.
Downtown is know a the village of Sanbornville, the town includes the villages of Wakefield Corner (the original town center), East Wakefield, North Wakefield, Sanbornville, Union, Woodman and Province Lake
44.7 square miles, known as the 7 lakes region for Lovell, Great East, Province, Pine River Pond, Belleau, Ivanhoe and Balch though there are numerous other small bodies of water in the area. Lovell Lake(picture here) is easily accessible from the downtown area and has a playground and public beach area. Wakefield/Sanbornville is also the home of the Poor Peoples Pub well known and very popular landmark!
Winter is not a time for slowing down, Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club maintains miles of trails, the recreation department holds a fishing derby every year and ice skating and fishing are always popular!
